God commanded the Jewish people to slaughter some animals as sacrifices. He also permits animals to be slaughtered for food. But the Jewish people are not permitted to eat the animal’s blood.

Altars were primarily used in the past for animal offerings. Also, sometimes a person or group would build an altar to commemorate a significant event.
Exodus 31:1-3 and 35:30 – Bezalel
In Exodus chapters 25 – 30 God commands Moses about building the Tabernacle and its furnishings. In Exodus 31:2 God designates Bezalel as the man who will perform the work.
